A perspective for a successful presentation

A perspective for a successful presentation

When you attend a conference or listen to a talk, you expect to find out valuable knowledge presented in an attractive manner. From the audience’s perspective, the speakers must be well prepared to create a pleasant learning environment. It may be surprising, but it isn’t actually a good idea to feel no fear at all when giving a talk or a presentation. People who are too relaxed look a bit over-confident and pleased with themselves. Audiences don’t appreciate that. Being a little bit nervous can provide just enough adrenaline to make us feel energized and catch the audience attention.
I am going to write about my perspective on what I consider important for a good presentation among many other useful ideas. There are things you need to take into consideration when you prepare and give a talk.

Preparation :
• pick a topic you and your audience are truly interested in. A well-chosen subject makes the public feel involved and curious to discover further information;
• design slides with comprehensive content which have well-structured sentences based on the KISS principle (Keep It Short and Simple);
• before delivering a presentation it is vital to practise it. Using a visualization technique can help you perform well and be mindful.
Execution:
• start your presentation with a powerful message so that the audience will be on your side and feel engaged during your performance;
• deliver a high quality content in an enthusiastic and confident manner and try to avoid insisting too much on an idea. Exaggerating can lead to negative emotions and eventually, loss of interest;
• end your talk with a memorable conclusion. Invite your audience to put in action your ideas so they can improve their knowledge and overall experience.
